Exploring the Effects of School-ground Design upon Students' Bullying in Cairo, Egypt

There have been acknowledgments of the potential impact physical setting on how children behave in several contexts. School as an environment, where spend most their time throughout year, can affect they certain situations. Bullying has highlighted one prevailing problems occurring schools, which predominantly takes place school playgrounds. This study aims to identify playground design attributes influence bullying amongst students. Towards this objective, adopts a qualitative approach undergoing two phases. The first phase is analysis relevant literature provide understanding bullying, and it occurs playground, well that promote bullying. second ethnographic existential-phenomenological purpose-designed semi-structured interviews, field observations carried out Cairene schools fully grasp different patterns associated with spaces. These interviews occurred spring 2020 4 represented by principals teachers responsible for supervision. Analyses revealed mostly Different themes emerged spaces, design, absence/ presence features contribute aggression, safety among concluded following factors should be considered while designing playground: 1) assessing principals’ teachers’ 2) evaluating features, 3) promoting more active play. main goal research shedding light relationship between exacerbates phenomenon schools. limitations included were being banned from any interactions researcher students prohibited taking footage during recess.
